Te Pā Tāhuna - a name with deep roots. Gifted by mana whenua, the name Te Pā Tāhuna honours the enduring connection iwi have with Tāhuna Queenstown. It reflects the Māori traditions of ahi kā – a place where the home fires continue to burn on the shores of Lake Whakatipu Waimāori.
This landscape carries generations of stories. From Tūwiriroa, a Kāti Mamoe chief who settled in the region, to the generations of Waitaha, Kāti Mamoe, and Kāi Tahu who relied on the area as a vital source of kai, pounamu and other taonga (treasures), to sustain their way of life and cultural traditions.
Today, Tāhuna remains a place of connection - where ancestral, spiritual, and cultural traditions continue to guide and inspire the community.
